What is the range of 5 watts VHF?
I wonder how far I can go on shore in my boat and still be able to speak to someone in land with 5 watt handheld VHF. All persons who have tried to buy any indication. Thanks for any input ….
We have a vintage SITEX HH-300 on board Our ship of his own pocket at all times, and our Uniden mounting base. The SITEX not extremely well using the rubber duck "antenna at a distance of 5-7 miles in the water free to talk to other boats and marinas. If hand-hand contact, about three miles is the range that can wait. I echo the views above, do not depend a pocket computer that our only means of communication by radio. Hope this helps!
