PP, GMRS, Marine VHF, 900 MHz – we can use?

The General Mobile Radio Service and Family Radio Service handies relatively new 900MHz arrived on the scene, all are capable radios that can have the same goal: personal or business communication at close range. Marine VHF are different. More on marine VHF radio later.

The cheapest of the three short-range radios are personal Family Radio Service (FRS) handies. FRS radios are limited 500 megawatts, or half of one watt. Realistically, they are good for anything up to 1 mile depending on terrain. The FRS is handies free license, which is a great advantage. These handies with 14 channels available. CTCSS coding could reduce interference in large urban areas, but still have 14 channels. CTCSS does not add channels.

FRS was introduced by the FCC in 1996 as a cheap and license free communication of personal and professional use. Curiously, the only way you can now get a radio FRS again to buy new old stuff (NSA), no manufacturer builds a more FRS radio. Any new radio service sold by a combination of FRS and GMRS.

The General Mobile Radio Service (GMRS) handies are more expensive. They have higher performance, typically 1-4 watts, although some luxury handies allegedly GMRS increase the options for the power that gives them a maximum of 5 watts output. That is the limit you can leave the battery Walkie. If you think 5 watts of output is not right, think again! The vast majority handies amateur radio (HAM) also have a maximum power of 5 watts. More than that, and the batteries are exhausted very quickly during the show! The GMRS handies have a new set, but does not believe the truth about the 20, 28, 34 miles, etc.. In fact, you get about 10% of that. So if your hand GMRS reached 3.4 miles. Of course, if you're on a mountain or a lake in a boat, will be bigger, because there are no obstacles.

GMRS was introduced in the 1960s by the FCC. At that time, called the class of radio service to a citizen.

GMRS has a total of 22 channels. However, FRS and GMRS proportion of seven UHF channels, so your handie automatically switches to low power (500 mW) to transmit on some channels. As FRS, GMRS handies are also available with CTCSS encoding.

The handies GMRS requires an FCC license, which is not cheap at $ 85. However, you will be in violation federal law, if you operate a GMRS radio without a license.

The handies 900 MHz, which are relatively new to the market, use one watt output and a free license. They work with a technology called frequency hopping spread spectrum. This technology is similar to cell phones, but does not recall these handies using repeaters cell phone. The range of these handies is comparable to a GMRS 1-2 watts of power.

Marine VHF is strictly for marine use! If you do not have a boat, do not use these radios. The FCC has (and still) people fined for unauthorized use. What Just do a little research on the net and see! There is much information on page FCC website on the rules and regulations on marine VHF … they (Coast Guard) take any unauthorized use of these frequencies very seriously. Very recently, introduced a walkie-talkie a Cobra GMRS and so VHF marine frequencies. You can make a great addition to your water activities.

You can get one of these radios the superstore, Amazon, Ebay and many other sources. Expect to pay about $ 20 for handies down to plus $ 100 for premium models.

Most fans Thel time is spent contacting and talk to people in remote areas and cultures. bidirectional communication, identifying their location and the train station, area, region and location is the custom. This is always followed by other types of informal communication. If contact is made for a contest to make a statement bidirectionally with the largest number stations or amateur radio operators as possible, all information is shared.

DX-and DX-ing expeditions:
A main hobby is operator amateur radio contact as many stations in many parts of the world as possible. DX represents remote stations. The DX-ing, in general, continues to QSO. (A Q code, see below) which means "a conversation."

DX-expeditions are different in the sense that they are expeditions organized / always with the sole purpose of establishing contacts with certain places or areas of rare and special. Some travel long distance just to make contact with an area not represented or place.

Radio frequency scanners available one day a very useful tool in these efforts. The scanner scans for signals up to a power of the radio signal is found and so on.

QSL cards:
Q code is a standardized set three-letter message encodings, all starting with the letter "Q" originally developed for radio communications business, and later adopted by other radio services, especially radio amateurs. In the current age Audio signal transmission, Q codes are not essential. but still in use and are considered a kind of traditional.

As part of DX-card and DX-ing expeditions QSL card or proof of contact is shared. QSL is one of the Q-code that means "I acknowledge have received. The common practice is that those who established a contact to a particular exchange QSL card to confirm your contact email and conversations. This QSL can be used as evidence of its scope and amateur operators who come into contact with a number of other amateur radio operators in a given period is assigned. In addition, there are honest and they are considered effective for radio amateurs.

remote contact:
Some countries have amateur radio less and be in contact with them special considerations. Thus, when a radio amateur in these regions is in contact with other herds of ham operators for communication with one of these hams. Contact with these sites has its price underrepresented and special considerations in the scholarship programs.

Hamfest:
social events ham families and friends. This is something that looks like the family oriented social parties where there are no sales, exchanges, meetings and entertainment. Similarly, the that is filled to the sale and exchange of ham, ham friends encounter real life and fun events for a day or sometimes in a few days.

Ham operators form a discussion group based on common interests of others as ham can also be a discussion group associated with ham and can be networked or networks.

If an amateur is involved with all these different activities, he or she is sure that never get bored. Look in some of them and see if he wants to participate.
