ATCS Monitoring with an ICOM IC-2AT?
Is this a good radio to use for ATCS monitoring? I got this radio fairly cheap. There also is a Motorola HD220 FM radio with a possible USB on it. Would this be a better radio to use? I’m new to Amateur Radio and ATCS. If these radios won’t work, then what would be a good cheap HAM Radio and ATCS Monitoring Radio to buy? Thanks for your help.
I’ve never heard of ATCS on the ham bands.
The //otorola radio is an HT (handi-talkie) HT220 and is an ANTIQUE. The nice thing about HT220′s is that you can pick them up for $5.00 to $10.00 each. The bad thing is that they are 15v radios, they will not work on 12V or 13.8v (car voltage).
The IC-2AT is just the opposite, it is a 9.6V to 10.8V, never exceed 10.8V or you will be rebuilding the power amp.
You can find clean IC-2AT’s for $25 to $30.00. Audio in/out is easy.
I use an IC-2AT for my APRS station in the car.
The HT220 and the IC-2AT are FM ONLY… no USB
The ATSC that I know about is on the Aircraft band, 108 to 126 MHZ, and is AM… you need an AM receiver. Neither the HT220 or the IC-2AT will receive 108 – 126MHz.
